At Ringaskiddy Port in County Cork, Irish customs authorities discovered cocaine worth €3.85 million (£3.44 million).
A shipping container that had been delivered from Ecuador contained about 55kg of the narcotic, which was discovered hidden inside the refrigeration unit on Friday.
The discovery was made possible, according to the Garda (Irish police), by an x-ray machine and a drug-detecting dog named Merlin.
Garda authorities are conducting an inquiry and have requested information.
