Dominican authorities would make massive displacements today.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Red Cross activated the 2,744 shelters registered throughout the Dominican Republic to house people who live in vulnerable places and would be displaced in the next few hours as prevention.

Delfín Rodríguez, director of the agency, reported that military personnel had been required for said displacement, starting with the areas near rivers, streams and ravines.

Of the shelters, 61 are located in Santiago de los Caballeros, registered by this province’s Prevention, Mitigation and Response Committee.

Francisco Arias, director of the Civil Defense in Santiago, indicated that sports facilities, community centers and other establishments are among them. Although public schools and colleges are also listed, these would only be used if strictly necessary, he said.
