SANTO DOMINGO.-The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office Against the Illicit Smuggling of Migrants and Human Trafficking (PETT), together with the Montecristi Prosecutor’s Office, launched Operation Border this Sunday morning, through which they dismantled an organized crime network dedicated to the trafficking of Haitian immigrants.
In the extensive operation deployed in the northern border area, which includes the provinces of Monte Cristi and Dajabón, Eddy Rafael Cordero Villanueva and Osiris Rafael Estévez Fortuna, who have been identified as leaders of this migrant smuggling network from Haiti, were arrested.
Other members of this network who were arrested are Elbio José Castillo Martínez, Hilario Antonio Gómez Paul, Santo Valerio Contreras, Anelby Susaña Guzmán, Jesús María Cerda Acosta, Anelsy Escarlex Cordero Núñez and María Rafaela Batista de Cordero.
Members of the Dominican Army, Second Lieutenant José Dolores Hernández Merejildo and Julio César Pujols Montero, were also arrested in operation; Sergeants Major Rafael Contreras and Rafael Zabala Peña and Corporal Sandro Liranzo Javier.
