Santo Domingo -The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, inaugurated the construction work of the University of La Romana (Uniromana) this Saturday. The infrastructure will have four levels, 23 classrooms, 14 teachers’ rooms, 11 laboratories, 23 rooms meeting rooms, two computer spaces, an auditorium, a library, and a production control area, among others.
“The Dominican Republic enjoys legal security that invites the investment of more than 20 million dollars, in the case of this institution of higher education, whose foundations will have a positive impact on the academic, economic, and social growth of the entire eastern part. of the nation,” said Franklin García Fermín, head of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mescyt).
The university will be under the educational network of Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (Funiber), an entity that develops projects in America, Europe, and Africa. García Fermín specified that the university foundation supports Uniromana after working with the European University of the Atlantic to develop and strengthen an Ibero-American vision.
In addition, he indicated that it would help promote the mobility of students, professors, and researchers, especially when double degree programs are articulated in strategic alliances that link the old and new continents.
The president of Funiber, Santos García, highlighted strengthening the National Higher Education Systems and promoting Latin America for scientific and technological development by developing scholarship programs adapted to the local reality.
Uniromana was approved by the National Council of Higher Education in 2022 and created by the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana and the Universidad Europea del Atlántico, which means the practical materialization of the principles and objectives of Funiber in the Caribbean area.
