PUNTA CANA, DR.- The former president of the Republic and leader of the People’s Force (FP), Leonel Fernández, did not rule out an alliance between the FP and other organizations, including the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), from which he left in 2019 after alleging fraud in the internal primaries.

Fernández, in the framework of the Global Forum developed by the Global and Development Foundation (Funglode) in Casa de Campo, said that the FP has always talked about the possibility of an opposition front that could emerge to remove President Luis Abinader and the Revolutionary Party Modern (PRM) of power.

The opposition leader acknowledged that the president of the Social Democratic Institutional Bloc (BIS) party, José Francisco Peña Guaba, has been working on coordinating an opposition alliance against the PRM.

However, the former president said that the goal of the Fuerza del Pueblo is to reach the goal of two million affiliates before the upcoming presidential, congressional, and municipal elections to be held next year.

In recent days, the possibility of the FP and the PLD uniting an alliance to face the re-election of President Luis Abinader and the PRM has gained strength.

Insistent rumors suggest that both organizations, in addition to the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), have formed commissions to monitor the possibility of an opposition agreement.
