Santo Domingo.-  The Ministry of the Interior and Police is modernizing its file system, which allows it to preserve files in good condition and speed up work for the benefit of users, especially those who process naturalizations and weapons files.

During the  VII National Meeting of Archives, the person in charge of the area in the Directorate of Control and Regulation of Weapons and Ammunition, Betty Almonte, highlighted the significant advances that the departments have had, with training in documentary identification and talks on the importance of the institutional system of files.

He explained that the advice of the General Archive of the Nation (AGN) technicians has served as a guide for achieving the progress that the institution shows today.

The ministry has made transfers to that organization of data on firearms permits and naturalizations, corresponding to the period 1846-2006, with an approximate volume of  27,379 documents, which thus constitutes one of the most significant funds preserved in that place.

Almonte explained that the central archive of the Interior and Police has a volume of  14,000 naturalization files stored in 2,000 standardized boxes, which received treatment for their conservation and accessibility. Likewise, they are preparing the transfer of 73 packages related to firearms files.

He explained that in 2011, they received advice from the AGN, intending to put the institutional archive system into operation and highlight the importance of creating the central archive.

“The parameters established for good archival functioning are that the documents should not be placed on the floor, to avoid damage due to humidity or pests, remove staples and classify the files by series,” he stated.

Filing managers from public entities participated in the activity, offering their experience compiling and caring for the reports.
