SANTO DOMINGO.- The civic movement Participación Ciudadana rejected this Wednesday “outright” the proposal of former Vice President Margarita Cedeño in the sense that President Luis Abinader and the former presidents meet.
According to Cedeño, the meeting between Abinader and former presidents Leonel Fernández, Hipólito Mejía, and Danilo Medina would be to agree on a solution to what she calls “a governance crisis” produced by the submission to the justice of past officials and directors of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
In a press document, the civil society entity indicates that it is precisely against this practice that they have fought for decades, against mutual impunity agreements, explicit or implicit in Dominican politics.
SOCIETY IS SATISFIED WITH MP ACTIONS
“On the contrary, the Dominican population is widely satisfied with the actions of an independent Public Ministry and has placed its expectations on judges to act with objectivity and intelligence.
He said that Dominicans also expect judges to act with the courage required to punish corruption and impunity in the Dominican Republic to the fullest extent of the law.
