SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) described this Friday as “nonsense” and “another deception” to the Dominican population the intention of the Government to create by law a Ministry of Justice.
This cut bill weakens the institutional framework of the Public Ministry while eroding its independence and, consequently, the autonomy of the justice system, the organization said in a statement.
“It is not true that the objective of this bill is for the justice bodies to concentrate on what their main functions are because, for example, the Supreme Court of Justice and the Dominican judiciary have the responsibility of guaranteeing the Registry of Real Estate of the nation, and in that case it is not being touched, that has remained as a tradition that must continue like this,” said the PLD.
For the opposition political party, the Government wants to create new bureaucracies and jobs and erode the Public Ministry, weakening it in an investigation.
“If the Executive Branch takes control of everything that is the forensic audit and the evidence system, we would be seeing that the president and a minister would have serious and important controls within the criminal prosecution of the Dominican Republic,” the organization added.
The Government must strengthen a new wave of reforms that generate cheaper, more efficient, faster justice, where there is a truly less judicial delay. That maintains that the poor have access to an objective justice system without manipulation, said the PLD.
