President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach thanks President Abinader for supporting the sport.

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader received a courtesy visit from the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, and they had a long conversation about Olympism worldwide. In particular, the head of the IOC thanked the president for all his support for the sport in the Dominican Republic.

In addition, Bach detailed the sport’s progress in the country and highlighted the five medals won by the Dominican delegation that participated in the Tokyo Olympics, noting what they meant for the team compared to the only one obtained in Rio de Janeiro. January 2016.

In the meeting held this morning in the Presidential Office of the National Palace, Bach told the Head of State that he met with several Dominican athletes and valued the support that the Dominican Government gives to sports, as well as the contribution of the CRESO program (Creando Sueños Olímpicos) to athletes from different disciplines, with whom he also met.

Similarly, Bach highlighted government support during the pandemic that, he said, allowed the Dominican Republic to recover and make great strides, facilitating the country’s participation in the Olympic Games.

In this sense, President Abinader explained the process and the Government’s measures throughout the issue of the pandemic to ensure the country’s recovery.
