The drug gang in Mexico has apologized for attacking American victims after a suspect photo surfaced.

Mexico: Five rogue members of a Mexican drug cartel are accused of being responsible for the murderous abduction of four Americans in Matamoros.

In a letter that the Associated Press obtained, the Scorpion branch of the Gulf cartel made the allegations. After being turned in by the cartel along with the letter, photos allegedly showed the suspects lying face down on a pavement with their hands bound.

Five of the cartel’s members “acted under their own decision-making and lack of discipline,” the cartel admitted after apologizing for the kidnapping.

The letter adds, “The Gulf cartel encourages the community to be calm as we’re determined to ensure that these errors are never again made and plan to make that culpable pay.

The news came from reports that LaTavia “Tay” McGee, Eric James Williams, Shaeed Woodard, and Zindell Brown were the targets of extensive background checks by Mexican police looking into the likelihood of cartel ties.

A report noted Williams and Woodard’s criminal histories Reuters received, revealing prior drug offenses.

Four days after their kidnapping on March 3, the missing tourists were ultimately found by authorities. Woddard and Brown were already dead, but McGee and Williams were saved.
