Santo Domingo: DR: US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman will visit Santo Domingo this week. She will address, among other issues, “the urgent situation in Haiti,” the US Embassy in the Dominican Republic reported Monday.
Sherman’s trip to the Dominican capital is part of the tour she carries out, from April 10 to 14, through New Orleans (USA), Santo Domingo, and Buenos Aires, according to a statement from the legation.
In Santo Domingo, Sherman will meet with Dominican President Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, among other authorities.
“Her meetings with her will reinforce our strong and lasting bilateral ties on a wide range of issues, including the urgent situation in Haiti,” the note details.
In addition, the undersecretary will meet with members of the Dominican civil society, including alums of scholarship programs and leadership of the United States Government.
Sherman’s visit comes just a few days after the special presidential adviser for the Americas of the United States, Chris Dodd, participated as a guest in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government that the Dominican capital hosted on March 25.
