Miami, Florida.- The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, highlighted that the Dominican community abroad is a priority in the plans and actions of the Government of President Luis Abinader.

Peña expressed himself in these terms during a meeting with the diaspora during his visit to Miami, in which nearly 400 Dominicans residing in Florida and other North American states participated.

At the same event, the senior official received the key to Miami-Dade County from the president of the Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners, Oliver Gilbert, and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermúdez.

The vice president specified that, as part of the commitment to ensure growth opportunities reach all Dominicans, the Government has implemented different programs such as training in 26 countries, including the United States, through the Institute of Dominicans Abroad. , and supported by the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep).

Likewise, he highlighted the opportunity for Dominicans to access, for the first time, from abroad, international scholarships from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, as well as the expansion of the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) so that the diaspora and its family members can receive hospital coverage and medical care in the Dominican Republic through a mixed network with approximately 9,000 service providers.

He also highlighted the implementation of mechanisms that allow them to acquire their home in the country, primarily through the Happy Family National Housing Plan, a project carried out in collaboration with the Reserve Bank.

Raquel Peña stated that the facilities mentioned above are a way to reward the work of men and women to contribute to the growth of the local economy and the development of their communities, and that raises the Dominican flag high.

Strengthening bilateral relations

On the other hand, the vice president highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations and the high international valuation of the Dominican Republic as “a result of honest, transparent and committed government management, and the values ​​that our community represents in the United States.” United, where the Dominican stands out for his work, kindness, and solidarity.”

He said that foreign investment continues to grow, as does the excellent management of public funds to invest in social works and the recognition of the rapid recovery of tourism.

The vice president took the opportunity with the diaspora to thank them for that; even when the world had to face COVID-19 and was in the same situation, remittances did not decrease and, on the contrary, increased to make the lives of Dominicans in the country easier.

The ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the United States, Sonia Guzmán, also participated in the meeting with the Dominican community abroad; the Dominican consuls in Orlando and Miami, Francisco (Holi) Matos and Geanilda Vásquez; the general administrator of the Reserve Bank, Samuel Pereyra; the Dominican councilor in the city of Doral, Digna Cabral; as well as mayors, vice mayors and other representatives of Florida and Dominican institutions in the state mentioned above.
