Customs collects more than RD 106 million in public auctions during 2022

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) collected RD 106,184,276.13 in the five public auctions it held in 2022 for abandoned merchandise coming from ports and airports in the country after exhausting due legal process.

In the five auctions carried out through the Dominican Agroindustrial Exchange (BARD), the DGA received: RD 14,260,000.00 (February); RD 18,456,311.99 (March); RD 26,366,000.00 (June); RD 20,977,000.00 (August) and RD 26,124,964.14 (November).

In the 2018-2019 period, revenue from auctions amounted to RD 98,630,814.36, while from October 2020 to date, revenue from this concept is RD 273,572,480.66, equivalent in absolute terms to RD 174,941,666.30 more, which represents a growth of 17.7 %.

Through its Auction Department, the collecting entity informed that from now on, the bids would be made with a frequency of three months, complying with the new Customs Law No. 168-21.

Likewise, the institution announced the importance of these operations for the entity since the law establishes that the duties and taxes not paid upon the entry of the merchandise into our country are recovered.

The auction merchandise included: spare parts and used spare parts for vehicles, motorcycles, four wheels, clothing, LED lighting, box filling machine and its components, bicycles, ceramic tiles, new and used tires, new car batteries, and accessories and spare parts for home.

Also, consoles for air conditioners, threads, and fabrics, raw material for detergents, diverse clothing, children’s clothing, disposable gowns for clinical use, tire repair machine, spare parts for household appliances, electric walkers, bicycles, heat shrink plastic application equipment for boxes of aseptic containers, condensers for refrigeration rooms, power plants, hair care products, among other merchandise.

The process began by publishing a notice in written media of national circulation on different days, following the provisions of the Customs above Law Law No. 168-21 in its chapter VII On the auction of merchandise, articles from 121 to 136 of the Customs regime. With this, merchants, importers, and organized companies legally established in the country and the general public were invited to participate.

Then the goods were exhibited, before operations, in the DGA auction warehouse, in the ports of Haina Oriental and Multimodal Caucedo, during business hours.

Equipment

A group of DGA collaborators, specifically from its Auction Department, made up the team that carried out said activity.

Officials from the Dominican Agroindustrial Exchange (BARD) and representatives of the notary public were also present.
