The Japanese Executive today imposed sanctions against nine members and a key entity related to the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, as announced by the Japanese government spokesman, Hirokazu Matsuno.
“We have prepared this list of individuals with the aim of stopping the source of income for Hamas’ terrorist activities,” Matsuno said at a press conference, adding that further measures are planned by the Japanese government in the future.
The current round of sanctions, imposed by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, involves the freezing of funds and the prohibition of transfers for several members of the group, in line with other similar measures adopted in recent days by governments such as the of the United States.
The Japanese list includes three citizens residing in Palestine, three in Jordan, one in Egypt, one in Sudan and one transfer company.
Washington also imposed new sanctions last Friday against key members and financial networks of the organization, including a company in Spain, as well as Iranian officials who have trained Hamas militants.
The Japanese Government today approved sanctions for a total of 527 people and organizations, also including the Taliban in Afghanistan and other terrorists, in order to “freeze the production” of these groups, as detailed in a statement by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
