It sounds strange after the Miami Dolphins offense put together a historic performance in a game where victory was never in doubt, but coach Mike McDaniel believes his team responded well to adversity.
“We talked a lot in the preseason about adversity,” McDaniel said, “and sometimes adversity is having a lead or two plays because you can let the atmosphere dictate your production. What I saw from a lot of the guys and specifically when you talk about that type of production, the guys are going to take it to heart — that we have only one chance with this team in 2023 and we are going to do the best we can.”
The Dolphins maintained that level in a 70-20 blowout victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Miami had 726 yards of offense, including 350 on the ground, and it was the most impressive offensive performance since McDaniel took the reins.
Miami’s 70 points were the most in the NFL since 1966 and tied for third most in history. McDaniel acknowledged the significance of those totals, but clarified that the team has other goals.
The Dolphins (3-0) are only the only undefeated team in the American Conference and have the best offense in the league thanks to the creative playmaking of McDaniel, the arm of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and a collection of skill players. .
Miami has the fastest runners, according to NextGen stats. Receiver Tyreek Hill has been responsible for three of those plays, including the fastest of the year.
Tackle Terron Armstead said Sunday’s performance showed how “dangerous” the Dolphins can be and emphasized that they can’t be stopped.
